The history of Chinese feminism in changing national and international contexts (1920s to present)

讲座内容：Feminism and the women’s movement worldwide have always been marked by international exchange and national particularities. As for the Chinese case, reform and opening in China since the late 1970s have increasingly exposed Chinese feminism to international trends. At the same time, international feminism has become aware of feminist traditions outside the West and tried to be more inclusive in its feminist agenda. These developments raise the question how to write and assess the history of Chinese feminism in an increasingly globalized world. Which perspectives and values should be applied and how can Eurocentrism avoided? This presentation will look at selected chapters in the history of Chinese feminism and argue that radical contextualization and historicization might be a feasible way. In the final analysis, Chinese feminism appears as a particular case but also integral part in the history of international feminism.
